Messi to Arsenal

In what could be one of the most shocking news(Even more shocking than Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona!) It is learn’t that Arsenal may actually send out a bid to sign the hottest free agent in World football, Lionel Messi. Yes, The six-time Ballon d’Or winner might be plying his trade at the Emirates for the 2021-22 season lining up alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicholas Pépé.

Yes, the past 12-16 hours have been crazy! Just 24 hours ago it seemed like a sure contract extension between FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi which would see the Argentine Magician plying his trade for the La Liga giants. Can Arsenal Pull Audacious Move Of Lionel Messi

Along with the likes of PSG, Manchester City, Inter Milan, and Juventus, it is being said that the Gunners are also going to go ahead and try to sign the Barcelona legend to the club. But is it going to be possible for Arsenal to sign the Ballon d’Or 2021 favorite to the club? In theory, yes!

Arsenal has already spent 69 million euros to transfer Ben White in from Brighton (Even Though his valuation is around 30 million Euros). And now they are targeting the Leicester City FC midfield general James Maddison. This clearly shows that Arsenal Football Club has the financial capabilities to sign Lionel Messi! What’s a bonus here for the Gunners is that they wouldn’t have to spend a transfer fee to sign Lionel Messi and could save the money for his salary expectations at the club.

But does Arsenal have the Financial backup to sign Lionel Messi after lavishly spending on Ben White? Again, yes ! James Maddison is valued at around 60m Euros in the transfer market. If the Gunners have enough financial backup to pay for the Englishman’s transfer and salary they can surely pay up the salary of Lionel Messi!.

This news should also make the legendary Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger very happy as in his tenure at the club, he tried to sign the trio of Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, and Gerard Pique from FC Barcelona’s youth setup La Masia in 2003 but eventually could only sign the Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas to the Arsenal ranks. In an interview in 2016, Arsene Wenger admittedly said “We tried to sign Pique, Fabregas, and Messi, of course, we already tried but he was already too big at the time”.

What could go against them signing Lionel Messi would be two factors. The first being, Arsenal is not playing in any European competitions. The once-mighty club has lost form and has gradually slipped in the premier league points table. This has led to them not being able to compete in the Champions League nor the Europa League in the upcoming season.

Participating in the UEFA Champions League is one of the key factors that Lionel Messi would want, but Arsenal can’t give him that in the near future. The second key factor would be the depth of the squad. Currently, Arsenal doesn’t have enough quality and depth in the squad to compete for the titles. Yes, Lionel Messi’s arrival will surely boost their chances but without many big names, it would be hard for Arsenal to charm Messi into the club.

Only time will tell where Lionel Messi eventually decides to go. A move to the Emirates is a far cry but not impossible! But if they don’t get Lionel Messi, Arsenal could realistically try to sign the likes of Martin Ødegaard or James Maddison to bolster their squad in the transfer window which could give them the much-needed push to finish in the European places or even have an outside chance of winning the league title.
