India won the second Test match by 151 runs and lead the five-match Test series by a margin of 1-0 after their famous wins at Lords Cricket Ground.

It has been more than one week since India thrashed England at the Mecca of Cricket, Lords Stadium. Due to that stellar effort and all-around show by Shami and Bumrah. India leads the five-match Test series by a margin of 1-0. India defeated the home side of England by 151 runs. The visitors will look to carry their good form in the third Test match, which will be played tomorrow, 25th August 2021, to 29th August 2021.

England will have many things to worry about after that loss, and they also have made changes to the side for the third Test match at Leeds starting tomorrow. Root and co will look to uproot the Indian team after a mammoth run loss at Lords. At Leeds, the match between India and England will be played for the first time since that famous Test match India won in 2002. In the match, Sachin, Sourav, and Dravid scored their centuries, and Bhajji and Kumble spin twins of India gave India a memorable win over England.

IND – INDIA

India has been brilliant in the first two Test matches of the five-match Test series. KL Rahul has been the main positive for India in this series so far. He has been the leading run-scorer for the visiting team. KL scored 129 runs in the second Test match, and the 84 runs came according to the game’s situation.

Rahul was picked as the open because Shubman Gill has been ruled out and Mayank Agarwal wasn’t fit for the first Test match. But Kamaal Lajawab Rahul seized the opportunity with both hands, and he can undoubtedly cement his place for the next three upcoming matches of this Test series. But KL Rahul shouldn’t let his intensity down because there is a lot of competition for that opening slot in the team.

Another thing that has worked for India in the first two Test matches is their fast bowling. India won the series in Australia for the second time because of their pace battery. Mohammed Siraj was the one who led India to their second back-to-back series win in his debut series, and at Lords too, he was just incredible. He might have missed by an inch to get his name on the honors board of the Lords Cricket stadium. But Siraj will come good once again at Leeds.

Jasprit Bumrah was heavily trolled for not picking up any wickets for India in the world Test championship final against New Zealand. But Boom Boom made a grand comeback in the first test match and continued his superior bowling form in the Lord’s test match as well. Bumrah has been India’s leading bowling in this Test series so far.

Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma also contributed well with the ball. Now India is also known as the bowling powerhouse of these excellent bowlers, and the whole of India will want them to deliver in the reaming matches so that the wait of 14 long could end this time.

India needs runs consistently from their middle order. In the first test match, the middle order didn’t come good even after the beautiful opening stand from Rohit and Rahul. They continued the same story in the second test match’s first innings. After the century stands of the openers, Virat, Rahane, and Pujara fell cheaply, and due to that, India lost the advantage of being in the dominant position.

Pujara and Rahane scored some vital runs in the second Test match’s second innings, which is a big positive for India at Leeds. Ravindra Jadeja did well for India with the bat in hand. But he couldn’t exploit the conditions with the ball as Moeen Ali did for England. Jaddu hasn’t picked up any wickets for India in the two-Tests played so far. Now India will look to add Ravichandran Ashwin as the replacement of Jaddu for the next two Test matches at least. Ashcan exploit the conditions at Leeds, and he can also bat well down the order.

India should keep it simple for the next three upcoming Test matches. After their empathic win at Lords, India cant relax or take England lightly. India’s fast bowlers hold the key to their success. Mohammed Siraj can be the one to watch out for because he is in great form and can take on the opposition. Jasprit Bumrah and Shami will be the ones to get the breakthroughs for India with the new ball as they did in the second innings of the Lords Test match.

But India will need Ashwin or Jadeja to fire as the spin bowling all-rounders. The tracks in England haven’t supported the spinners as the Indian spinners would have liked. But Still, Moeen Ali picked up two wickets in the second innings and one wicket in the first innings. Those wickets came mainly because of the excellent line and length. Ashwin or Jadeja need to bowl some tight lines after the pace bowlers use the swing and seam in the overcast and moving ball conditions.

After the win at Lords, India has a perfect chance to ensure that they will not lose the series. So they should win at Leeds. India drew the series in 2002 under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly, and they won the series after 28 years in 2007 under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid. So India aims to win the third Test match of this series to secure a draw even if England makes a comeback and wins the last two Test matches.

ENGLAND – ENG

The home side is missing some dominant players like Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Chris Woakes. But they need many tactical things and have a better approach for the next upcoming games of this Test series.

England is a good Test team, especially at home. Very few touring teams have won against them. The Kiwis recently won the two-match Test series against England after 21 years, and New Zealand also went on to win their inaugural World Test Championship final against India at Ages Bowl in Southampton.

England needed to use their tactics against India wisely. Instead of using the short ball barrage against Bumrah and Shami on the last day of the second Test match. They could have ended their innings quickly by setting some close fielders against India’s bowler batsmen. Anderson should have been the one to clean up the tail of India. But Root, the England skipper, kept his best bowler at bay, and he hoped that both the tail-ender batsmen would miscue one short, which never happened.

England picked up Rishabh Pant early on day five. He was the leading man for India to get them past 200 runs lead. But Bumrah and Shami’s unbeaten 89 runs partnership took India took India to a great position from where they couldn’t lose the game. Shami scored his career-best 56, not out, and Bumrah, too, scored 30 unbeaten runs.

Now going into the third Test match, England needs to keep their approach and tactics simple. They are a good bowling side. Stuart Board will come in for Sam Curran, and they need to replace one of the openers also for the Leeds Test match against India. England does not need to make wholesale changes for the next Test. But they should aim to give their best to stay alive in the series.

Joe Root is the only batsman who has looked comfortable at the crease so far. The skipper scored two centuries in the first two matches and ensured that his team would be good. Root’s unbeaten 180 runs at Lords in the first innings gave England a vital 27 runs lead. Now he should promote himself up in the batting order. Root should bat at number three in the third Test match.

Haseeb Hameed and Dominic Sibley should open the game for them, and England will also need to drop Jos Buttler because they won’t require two wicket-keeper. Buttler hasn’t been in good form. Even though he played decently in the second innings, his poor form has caused pressure on Root. Bairstow scored a half-century in the first innings for England. So he should also take the gloves from Buttler. Ollie Pope should be the ideal replace Buttler for England.

Instead of Sam Curran, Stuart Board will surely make it to the playing XI. Sam hasn’t been the man with the bat for England in the Lords Test match. He has bagged a pair, and that’s what has made England look more vulgar in the last match. Stuart Board has been a legend in Test cricket for England.

He can do the damage with the ball along with his partner James Anderson. England can also look to replace Moeen Ali. Jack Leach could have been an ideal spinner to bowl at Leeds. But Leach doesn’t bat, and Ali can add depth in batting. So Ali got the nod ahead of Leach. England can also go with Craig Overton and Dominic Bess as their bowling all-rounder. They can also add depth to their batting.

The onus will be again on the in-form openers Rohit and Rahul to give the desired start. India will want runs from their captain. Kohli hasn’t had a great Test series till now, and he will not want to repeat the horrors of the 2014 tour when he is the captain of the side. VK has marshaled his troops well and used the DRS well in the second Test match’s second innings. But he needs to be practical about the use of the review system. Kohli will have time to work on his technique, especially the ball outside the off-stump, which got his wicket in the second innings of the Lords Test match. That is the reminder for the Indian skipper of 2014, where Aderson and co dismissed Kohli constantly through that channel.

Rahane and Pujara have the form with them after playing decently in the second innings at Lords, which allowed India to be in the game. Now, as the Test specialists of India, they need to convert that form into a great inning, which will allow India to do well in the three matches.  The bowling department will also hold the key. The pace battery of India will use the conditions in England. But it remains to be seen whether the spinner will have something to say and whether India will go with the two spins or stick to one. India will also be in a dilemma to pick Shardul Thakur or Ishant Sharma because Thakur also adds depth batting.
